What I Do In Meetings

I get bored easily. Today, in a meeting, I was half-heartedly listening to the speaker, when she used the word "focuses," as a plural noun. I looked at Mike, seated at my right, and mouthed the word "foci." He wrinkled his brow, so I wrote it on my notebook and showed him. He nodded and smirked in appreciation.

When the speaker used the word "thesauruses" a minute later, Mike and I looked at each other immediately. I wrote "Thesaurus = book of synonyms" at the top of my notebook. I then wrote "Bronthesaurus = book of dinosaurs" next to it.

And Mike tried not to giggle. And then IT WAS ON. With increasing glee, I brainstormed the following words, to entertain myself and attempt to get Mike to laugh in the middle of our meeting:

Dictionary -- book of words

Pictionary -- book of pictures

Bictionary -- book of pens

Cricktionary -- chiropractor's manual

Thicktionary -- a very big book

Hicktionary -- a very small book with small words  germane to rural areas

Fictionary -- a book of made-up words

Kicktionary -- a book of soccer heroes

Lictionary -- a book of sexual ideas

Quicktionary -- a blank book

Sticktionary -- a book about wood

Ticktionary -- a book about clocks

and my personal favorite:

Ricktionary -- a book that will never:

  • give you up
  • let you down
  • run around
  • desert you
  • make you cry
  • say goodbye
  • tell a lie
  • hurt you

TAKE THAT MIKE. DID YOU ENJOY GETTING STERN LOOKS FROM THE BOSS?

  2. You are bad. But I am the same way so it's a good thing I wasn't there. Ugh. Get rid of the word verification thing, lady! You won't get that many anonymous commenters in your inbox and you just delete them. :)

  5. Also, Dannette, every week I get several spam comments, even WITH the word verification. If I didn't have it, the spam would drown me.
